Automated spinal & peripheral traction — cervical, lumbar, thoracic

Traction, precisely controlled.

clTrac's dual-control mechanism continuously compares actual force against programmed settings, correcting deviations instantly. Force, progression speed, and treatment duration are all independently adjustable, with a full-colour display showing live treatment data throughout the session.

Effective treatment for a defined set of spinal conditions.

01 · Disc

Protruding & bulging discs

Enlargement of the intervertebral space creates an intradiscal pressure drop, drawing the disc back in.

02 · Nerve

Spinal root impingement

Separation of vertebrae relieves pressure on compressed nerve roots.

03 · Joint

Facet & posterior facet syndrome

Including acute facet problems and joint pain from the facet joints.

04 · Degenerative

Degenerative joint & disc disease

Traction supports pain reduction and functional improvement in degenerative presentations.

05 · Mobility

Hypomobility

Mechanical separation of joint-forming bone pieces restores movement at restricted segments.

06 · Pain

Radicular & discogenic pain

Peripheral radiation and sciatica relief, alongside compression fractures and prolapsed discs.

A mechanical force, pulling joint surfaces apart.

Traction lengthens the spine and flattens the lordosis, enlarging the intervertebral space. This lengthening is believed to play a central role in traction's effects, and can still be measurable up to two hours after a session ends — reducing excitation of intrafusal muscle fibers for a relaxing effect that lowers muscle tension.

Cyriax noted that in a bulging nucleus pulposus, enlarging the intervertebral space creates an intradiscal pressure drop — a suction effect that draws the nucleus pulposus back into the intravertebral space, and can lift disc or capsule entrapment so joint surfaces slide past each other again.

This fluid-suctioning effect improves moisture balance in the disc, an effect that's maintained even after the traction session ends.
Mode Clinical effect
Continuous traction Quiets the stretch reflex, decreases muscle guarding; separates posterior structures when held 7+ seconds
Intermittent traction Cyclical contraction & relaxation increases blood flow, in a massage-like action
Peripheral traction Tensions a displaced bone or joint, and keeps a muscle group stretched to reduce spasm
Skeletal traction Helps realign bones when fractures are unstable

Cervical, lumbar & peripheral — static or intermittent.

Preprogrammed parameters are based on the clinical evaluation of the device, and every value can be adjusted to the treatment goal, the patient's physical characteristics, or the practitioner's preference.

  • Cervical traction — static (max. 200N over 4 min) or intermittent (150–200N over 8 min)
  • Lumbar traction — static (max. 500N over 6 min) or intermittent (450–500N over 10 min)
  • Peripheral traction — static (max. 300N over 5 min) or intermittent (250–300N over 7 min)

How a clTrac acquisition works.

01

Consultation

We confirm your clinic type and caseload, and which traction table configuration fits your treatment rooms.

02

Configuration

Table, harness, and accessory selection — thoracic belt, pelvic belt, Flexistool, or Saunders cervical device.

03

Quote & freight

A written quote with freight coordination — curbside delivery is standard, with a competitive rate available for multiple tables.

04

Delivery & onboarding

Delivery coordination, setup, and a staff walkthrough on the six standard programs.

Built to fit the treatment, not just the table.

Safety

Patient Interrupt Button

When activated, the device safely phases out traction force and sounds an audible alarm. The clinician then chooses whether to resume or discontinue treatment — patient comfort and safety, always in reach.

Positioning

Adjustable device arm

The device arm rotates laterally over 180 degrees, for optimal positioning in both lumbar and peripheral traction — no repositioning the table between treatment types.

Belts & harnesses

Thoracic belt, pelvic belt & Saunders cervical device

A thoracic belt and pelvic belt for lumbar traction, plus the Saunders cervical traction device and a Flexistool with separate height adjustment for each leg — matched to how you actually treat.

FAQ.

Side effects

What side effects are known?

Minor muscle spasms, brief dizziness after treatment, and skin irritation if belts are applied directly to bare skin.

Children

Can I treat young persons?

Yes — the child must be able to express themselves orally about the effects of the therapy.

Traction cord

What knot is used, and when is it replaced?

A double octahedron (backstopped octagonal) knot. We recommend annual replacement, and immediate replacement if the cord shows any damage.

Tables

What tables can clTrac be used with?

Only a traction table or fixture that can withstand at least 1100 N, with fixture options matching those clTrac provides.
