OFA — the initials of founder Otto Fankhänel — has grown from a small family workshop into one of Europe's leading medical compression manufacturers, without ever leaving Germany.
1928
Otto Fankhänel founds the company in Zeulenroda, Thuringia. "OFA" is his own initials.
1948
Post-war relocation to Bamberg, Upper Franconia — production begins in the attic of the Schlenkerla brewery.
1981
The company settles into its current home, the Laubanger industrial estate in Bamberg.
1991
Ofa becomes one of only 11 companies worldwide to use the HOSY (Hohenstein) testing system for compression garments.
1994
Ofa Austria founded in Salzburg — today the market leader for medical compression in Austria.
2009
O-motion, Ofa's compression sport sock range, launches for the growing sports-compression market.
2015
